Once an air force base, Denver’s happening neighborhood of Lowry now has a lot to offer potential homeowners who are conscious of all that goes into making a community home. SHOPPING/ENTERTAINMENT
Residents of Lowry find plenty to entertain and don’t feel the need to escape the neighborhood. With the many parks and common areas, its easy to find something going on outside like fresh markets and summer concerts. For some great history on the area, you can’t miss the Wings Over the Rockies museum which inhabits an old hangar.
Shopping is centered around the Lowry Town Center Mall, which houses some well-known chains and go-to stops, but also local gems like Timbuk Toys, Kismet Boutique, and Marcella’s. There is the bike shop for the athletically-inclined; and Lowry cares about your dog too, so don’t miss Chewy’s Boutique before heading off to the dog park. For your nighttime adventures, try to catch one of the many quality shows and events that come through the Soiled Dove theater. |
RESTAURANTS/GROCERIES
Like shopping, your tried-and-true dining favorites are easily within reach in the Lowry neighborhood; but there is also plenty that is unique to the area. For Mexican fare, check out North County and El Pastor Taco. There is Serioz Pizza, a community favorite, and Café Mercato for more traditional Italian food. Other popular restaurants include Delectable Egg, and, of course, Lowry has it’s own Tavern.
For drinks, if the Tavern isn’t your scene, pop into the Lowry Beer Garden for a cold brew. To unwind a bit earlier in the day, Maui Wowi makes delicious smoothies and is good for local coffeehouse vibe as well. If you prefer to stay in, you’ll find all you need in terms of groceries and even specialty foods. There is a Safeway and a Whole Foods right in the hood; and locals in-the-know also rave about the Savory Spice Shop for unique food items and spices. |
PARKS/RECREATION
In this tight-knit, green-minded community, it’s hard not to get out and on-the-go. Take a walk or ride your bike to one of the many parks, like Sunset Park or the Great Lawn Park, complete with dog runs and playgrounds. These parks are always bustling with activity, but there is excellent special programming in the summer as well. For wintertime sport, don’t miss the Big Bear Ice Arena for a free skate or get a little more serious with skate lessons. You can catch hockey games there, too. And to make sure you’re staying in shape no matter the season, take advantage of the many fitness centers in the Lowry area, including a 24-Hour Fitness, Orangetheory, Endorphin, and Base Fitness.
